Planetary Court Building at the Koreshan Settlement in Koreshan State Park
Have you ever explored Koreshan State Park in Estero, FL? If you answered NO, then you are missing out on fun for the whole family!
Located on the intersection of 41 and Corkscrew Rd in Estero. This site became a state park in 1961, but the land was thriving with activities long before that. In fact, the park is home to the Koreshan Historic Site, which has original buildings from 1882, that's old for Florida! We'll get back to the history lesson a little later.
This park is over 300 acres and full of activities for all, with walking and hiking trails, camping, historic sites, guided tours, kayaking, canoeing, boating, fishing and more! During season enjoy your pick of fresh local goods at the farmers market. Check out the events for yoga classes and breakfast cooked in the history outdoor kitchen. This park is pet friendly, so bring your down (on a leash) and roam the miles of trails.
Nestled between Tamiami Trl and the Estero River, this park offers great access for fishing, boating and fun on the river. You can rent canoes, kayaks or tandem kayaks from the ranger station for an incredible low price!
If you're up for a full day adventure, check out Mound Key Archaeological Park. It's a couple hour paddle out in your canoe through the prestigious Estero Bay Preserve to an island which was inhabited over 2,000 years ago!
Of course if you want to relax, you can spend the day floating past mangroves, spanish moss covered branches, a bamboo forest and a variety of tropical foliage. Manatees are known to frequent this river and like to hang out in front of the Hapahatchee Center rope bridge. This river is truly special for it's scenery is unlike most experiences you will have on the water.
Back to the park itself. This place has a playground for kids, a shelter you can rent out for events or weddings, and a campground, if you need to getaway from the busy city life. The historic site offers tours and breakfast made in the original settlement kitchen. View the historic buildings and get a glimpse of life in the early 1900's in the Koreshan Society.
The Koreshan State Park and Historic Site is a great day trip or camping site. If you are looking to reconnect with the great outdoors and spend the day outside in nature, this park has something to offer for you. It's convenient location just minutes from FGCU, Florida Gulf Coast University, Coconut Shopping Mall, Miromar Outlets and if you are travelling by boat, you have direct gulf access!
